YnM Review Verdict At A Glance
YnM offer one of the most popular, budget friendly, weighted blankets currently on the market. There’s a wide choice of sizes for kids & adults & blankets are available with cotton, Minky or cooling bamboo fabric covers. Blankets have been known to leak beads, but this seems to have been addressed with updated sewing methods. There’s also a 3 year repair guarantee (you pay shipping). Overall, this is solid ‘all rounder’ mass produced weighted blanket with a very competitive price tag.
What’s the number 1 reason people return weighted blankets?
And let’s face it, no one wants that…what a mess!
Which is why it’s one of my most stringent considerations in a weighted blanket review.
So in this review, we’ll take a look at how well YnM stand up for durability, as well as comfort and value for money.
YnM Weighted Blankets Overview
YnM are one of the leading producers of mass produced weighted blankets for sleep and anxiety. YnM weighted blankets apply therapeutic deep touch pressure on the body of the child, or adult, using it, which science has shown may facilitate improved relaxation and better quality sleep.
Blankets are manufactured in China. Here’s a short video, which explains more:
5 Benefits of a YnM Weighted Blanket
All weighted blankets work in the same way, employing the relaxing ‘hug-like’ benefits of deep touch stimulation, pioneered by Temple Grandin and backed by science.
But not all blankets are made the same. So to give you an idea of what YnM blankets can offer you, here are 5 benefits of their blankets for kids and adults:
- Lots of choice: the choice of YnM weighted blanket covers used to be quite limited, but there’s now an impressive array available, from classic cotton covers to cooling bamboo fabric and soft and warm Minky (polyester). There are lots of child friendly designs available too.
- Wide range of sizes: you’re almost certain to find a size that suits – from 5lb kid’s sizes right up to King size blankets.
- Even bead distribution – a common complaint with many weighted blankets is uneven distribution of beads. YnM use smaller 4”x4” smaller compartments for better distribution of their micro glass beads.
- Designed to fit you body – YnM use a ‘7-layer’ design in their blankets, so the blanket shapes more effectively to the form of your body while you sleep and better aids temperature regulation.
- Secure, durable stitching: YnM’s updated ‘three-dimensional lock bead’ and fine stitching (2.5-3mm one stitch) secures beads and prevents weight shifting from one ‘pocket’ to another.
What Are The Cons Of A YnM Weighted Blanket?
YnM blankets went through a stage where many of their blankets were returned due to leaking beads. I’ve had the happen with a different brand and it’s seriously frustrating. Just as you start to fall in love with your blanket and experience the soothing benefits of deep touch pressure, you wake up to find micro beads all over the place.
Weighted blankets are also quite bulky, so returning them and having to cover the cost of return shipping can be a right hassle.
However, YnM seem to have taken the leaking beads issue seriously and re-assessed their stitching methods. New, updated sewing ‘technology’ as they call it is much more durable and the leaking beads issue appears to have been pretty much addressed.
That’s not to say there’s an absolute guarantee a bead will never escape from a YnM blanket. As with anything, there will always be the odd product that makes it through quality control, when perhaps it shouldn’t.
But YnM’s updates ‘three dimensional lock bead’ sewing method has been designed to keep glass micro beads firmly inside their pockets for a long time to come, so you’re not faced with any wandering beads.
Are YnM Weighted Blankets Comfortable?
YnM blankets have been designed so there’s improved weight distribution across the 4”x4” smaller bead compartments. Some other weighted blankets contain less compartments (i’e. they’re bigger), which can lead to beads shifting around too much or clumping together in one spot. These smaller compartments help the blanket to mould more comfortably to the shape of your body while you rest.
YnM blankets have also manufactured so they contain more glass beads and less fibre fill. This aids better comfort in terms of temperature control.
Are YnM Weighted Blankets Durable?
YnM weighted blankets use premium micro glass beads in their blankets. These are long lasting.
Fabrics (cotton, Minky or bamboo) are also good quality and updated stitching techniques ensure glass micro beads remain securely within their stitched compartments.
Whilst you can use a YnM weighted blanket insert on its own, a removable, washable duvet cover is recommended fo extra longevity.
Are YnM Blankets Good Value For Money?
YnM are one of the most popular and best selling mass produced weighted blankets currently on the market.
They are one of the best value too.
Originally, weighted blankets were largely handmade on an individual basis for people in the autism community. This tended to make weighted blankets expensive. But as more and more people have experienced their positive results, the word has spread and they’ve become increasingly popular. This has seen blanket manufacturing outsourced to places like China, which has seen prices come down.
So for price, YnM are hard to beat for the quality you get in both children’s and adult blanket versions.
Will a YnM Weighted Blanket Make Me Hot?
If you, or your child, are prone to overheating at night, or you live in a hot climate, weighted blankets (especially ones with Minky Dot covers) may feel too heating. This can also often be the case with children who are oversensitive to sensory stimuli.
This is where a cooling weighted blanket may prove hugely helpful. Made from a ‘bamboo’ fabric, they’re specifically designed to wick moisture away from the body, helping the user to stay cool and sweat free.

Are YnM Weighted Blankets Washable?
Investing in a separate, washable duvet cover is a good way help protect your weighted blanket from general wear and tear – however, YnM inner weighted blanket layers are washable.
Depending on the blanket and/or cover, washing and drying instructions may differ though, so refer to individual product details to be sure of specific washing guidelines.
What’s The Returns Policy?
According to their website, YnM offer 30 days returns & exchanges on products with original packaging. Keep in mind the returns policy states the return shipping cost is your responsibility though.
Reasonable repairs (after 30 days), such as leaking beads, are also covered up to 3 years. You pay shipping though and it’s always best to check latest product details to be sure of current terms.
What Do People Say About YnM Weighted Blankets?
YnM weighted blankets get consistently positive reviews from customers for performance, comfort and value for money.
A few people do find them a little hot (try the Cooling Bamboo version), whilst others have experienced leaking beads from insecure stitching – however this issue seems to have been addressed recently with updated stitching methods.
